Humane Education: Teaching Compassion

Programs: We offer a variety of education programs that fit the needs of the many people and groups in our community. AWS Day Camps - Located at the shelter on Holland Road for students aged 7-10. The students have an opportunity to interact with a variety of pets, play games, and create crafts. Snacks are provided but bring a lunch. Download registration form here.

AWS Kid's Summer Weekly Camps - Children ages 7-13 can attend our fun and exciting summer camps. The students have an opportunity to interact with a variety of pets, play games, create crafts and go on field trips! (more...)

Kid's Birthday Parties! Having a birthday party at the Animal Welfare Society is easy, affordable, mess free and full of learning opportunities, not to mention fun with animals! Download a brochure.

Humane Action League
Humane Action League is an after school kids club that meets on Monday afternoons from 3-4:30pm. The club consists of students who love animals and want to be involved in animal welfare. The group spends time with the shelter animals, learning about gentle handling, proper care and behavior.

Portland Children’s Museum
Every third Saturday of the month AWS host an hour-long program at the Children’s Museum in Portland on different animal subjects. Check out our Calendar page for more info.

Classroom Visits- Our Humane Educator visits local school classrooms to teach a variety of informational animal-related programs. (more...)
