(PAWS) Program - Pets and Women to Safety
The Link between animal abuse, child abuse, elder abuse and domestic violence has been well documented, and the Animal Welfare Society is doing something about it! Animals are abused in 88% of the families where violence is an issue. Violence and neglect is a worldwide concern that needs to be taken seriously, so that our children and animals grow up in a safe and loving world.
That's why we are part of Prevent Violence York County, a county-wide coalition made up of organizations that help to prevent and alleviate violence in some form. We hope to raise awareness of this issue and to let people know that this issue will not go away until we actively start preventing it.
We also have an in-shelter program, our PAWS program, that uses volunteer homes to temporarily foster pets for victims living at the Caring Unlimited women's shelter.
If you need help or know someone who needs help, call Caring Unlimited at 1-800-239-7298.
