Did you know??

The Animal Welfare Society accepts Companion Animals from 18 towns in Southern Maine. Most people immediately think of cats and dogs. However, there are many other animals who come to us for safekeeping while they wait patiently for a home. Click here to see the other pets who are waiting... for YOU!

IF you have ever considered adopting a bird, please come visit the AWS lobby as we have a variety of species for companion bird caretakers. They have very different personalities, so you'll have to do a little research to find the bird that best fits your family's lifestyle.

AWS uses paper towel and toilet paper rolls plus empty cracker and cereal boxes for dog enrichment. Your donation will help, we also need many other items that we use on a daily basis.

Meet Kimmy and Banks, two of the retired racing Greyhounds who have been studying at Becker College in Worcester this semester.

Featured Pet

"Betty and Wilma"

These little cuties are Betty and Wilma. They are young Degus who came to the shelter together with a large, triple decker cage that they call home. It will be included in their $65.00 adoption fee. They have a very strong bond and must go to their new home together. Degu's are very social creatures so it's important for them to have a friend. Betty and Wilma like all Degu's are very fun and playful so the habitat that they have is perfect for their antics. They need lots of play toys and chew toys too. Sugar and fruits can be fatal to Degus so it's important to feed them food made specifically for them as well as fresh veggies. If you are interested in adopting Betty and Wilma please fill out an adoption application and stop in to meet them. We also suggest that you do a bit of research on Degu's before bringing them home this way you can keep them as happy and healthy as possible.

Featured Adoption Success Story

Hi Gail and Sara:

Daisy, you might remember I adopted in July, after her not being able to find a home for several months, is doing fine. Here are some pictures of her from the summer.

Love John and Daisy
