A letter from the AWS Executive Director:
Dear Friends of AWS,
As we start a new month I wanted to update you all on our support activities relative to the AWS Fund and Humane Society International. On Friday, January 29, 2010 the Animal Welfare Society forwarded a check in the amount of $5210.00 directly to Dr Andrew Rowan, Executive Director of Humane Society International.
"On behalf of the Animal Welfare Society, its Donors, Board, Volunteers, and Staff I am pleased to enclose a donation for Humane Society International’s work on behalf of the people and animals affected by the recent disaster in Haiti.
Enclosed please find our check in the amount of $5210.00. It should be noted that this is an initial check and we anticipate some additional donations to our fund which will be forwarded at a later date.
This amount is made up of over one hundred donations in amounts varying from as little as $10.00 to a donation of $500.00. It is a donation of 100% of the amounts we have received and is sent with the trust we have in Humane Society International to use it wisely in their humane efforts in Haiti. Please note that it is considered a restricted donation to HSI’s Haiti effort.
We all wish you, your staff, and your volunteers all of the best in your efforts to help the animals and people of Haiti and look forward to your continued reports of progress in this endeavor."
As noted, in my letter we asked that these monies be restricted to their rescue efforts in Haiti. attached above are links to updates currently posted by HSI and HSUS.
I am also pleased to advise that David Pauli of HSUS has been appointed to lead their current effort in Haiti. David was Incident Commander during my management service at Lamar Dixon Shelter in New Orleans after Katrina. He is competent, compassionate and a great choice to lead the current efforts for HSI. We wish him well and look forward to hearing from him sometime in the future.
Read more about Dave Pauli.
We are still collecting additional funds and look forward to our future support being forwarded at a later date.
Best Wishes,
Steve Jacobsen
