Addison is a lover of all animals, large and small. She wanted to help out all the animals at the shelter, so she donated a large amount of cat supplies, including toys and food. Addison enjoyed her time at the shelter so much that she's going to be coming back to celebrate her birthday with us. Here you can see here enjoying some time with one of our rabbits available for adoption and our resident snake. Thanks for your donations Addison!

Meet Nathan & Cameron. Most boys might spend their allowance on toys, but not these two. They donated their allowances to AWS to help out all the animals in need. In addition, they donated lots of blankets and stuffed animals. Here they are with our popular resident ferret, Harlow. Thanks for your generosity boys!
It's summer and that means it's time for lemonade. Jenna, Lea, and Megan ran their own lemonade stand and decided to donate the money to the Animal Welfare Society. When it came time for their Hero Tour Jenna's Mom, Michelle, came home from work at The Cat Doctor in Portland with a trunkload of cat food to donate. Perfect timing because "Kitten Season" is in full swing at the Shelter. Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Givin and the folks at The Cat Doctor! Here are the girls posing with some darling little kittens. Wen appreciate your donation girls!

Jackie & Sophie wanted to do something to help all of the animals here at the AWS. So recently they donated money, kitty litter, cat food, toys, and even dog bones. Here's Jackie taking some time to visit with our resident ferret, Harlow. Thanks for your great generosity girls!

Girl Scout Troop 3240 raised a great deal of money selling Girl Scout cookies and wanted to do something for their community. They decided to donate the money, as well as a sizable amount of supplies, to the Animal Welfare Society. In addition, they purchased a memorial brick for our courtyard. Thanks for your support and generous donation!

Molly and Sarah had previously taken part in a Hero Tour at the shelter with a past donation. However, their love of animals is so great that they returned to us with a sizable amount of money that they had raised. Here they are "hanging out" with one of the many dogs whom we help find new homes for everyday. Thanks Molly & Sarah!

York Cub Scouts Troop 301, Den 3, recently made a sizable donation to the shelter. They are learning about animal care and decided to perform a supply drive for AWS. In addition to food and toys for the animals, they donated a Staples gift card, which will help us acquire necessary office supplies for all the humans here at the shelter. Thanks for your support!

When Aida's parents decided to have a Yard Sale she thought it would be a good chance to make a few dollars of her own. She set up a drink stand selling Kool Aid and Lemonade.
Once she saw the money coming in she decided that she really didn't need it after all and that she would bring it to the Animal Welfare Society and donate it to the ainimals.
When asked if she had a favorite animal she just couldn't narrow it down so she played with cats, dogs, ferrets and bunnies during her tour! She is a giving young lady with a bright future! Thank you Aida!
Hi Lona,
I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for the tour of the facility that you gave our 4H club last Saturday. We were all so impressed by all of it. One parent kept saying "I can't believe how clean it is here". I think she thought it was going to be a smelly dingy place that we were visiting...but found out differently.
The kids really enjoyed themselves and couldn't stop talking about the animals all the way home and through the weekend. I think a lasting impression has been made on them and hopefully they will continue to be interested in helping out animals in the future.
Our 4H club is new so for an easy community service fundraiser, I ask each child to just bring a bag of returnables to each meeting that I will cash in and save for Animal Shelter donations. I think that now that the kids have actually been inside to see the shelter, it will give them more incentive to remember to bring their returnables to our meetings so we can continue to make donations for the animals.
Again, thank you, you are doing a great job!

These young ladies are extraordinary. Sarah, in the white coat, felt like she wanted to do something special for the animals at the AWS. She talked to her Mom and came up with the idea of a supply drive at her school and at the Alfred Waterboro Veterinary Hospital where her Mom works.

She received great support from school principal, her teacher - Mrs. Miller, the Vet Hospital and her best friend - Kylee, holding the kitty.

Sarah is no stranger to animals they have always had many in the home. She particularly likes Pitbulls and hopes to work with animals when she is older.

She is a fine example of what one motivated person can achieve! Thanks to all who supported her drive!

Most kids spend their allowance before they even get it. Sophie decided to donate it to the shelter instead to help the dogs and cats she loves so much. She's planning on joining our summer program, so we'll be seeing a lot more of Sophie in the future. Thanks Sophie!

When Sophia celebrated her fourth birthday she asked that her friends and family buy presents for the animals at AWS instead of for her. She and her family love all animals! She enjoyed visiting with the cats, dogs, and small animals during her tour. She can be seen here enjoying the company of one of our many rabbits waiting for a home. Thanks Sophia!

For Catherine's birthday, the only gifts she wanted were donations to AWS. She has donated to various charities on a yearly basis since she was six. We may see here again at the shelter, as she's expressed interest in taking part in our summer programs. Thanks Catherine!

This is the Multiage Class from Kennebunk Elementary School. They wanted to do something special for their teacher after her father passed away, so they collected and donated a great deal of towels to the Shelter in his honor. We thank them for their donation and support.

Meet Faith! This young lady decided that she had enough "stuff" when asked what she wanted for her birthday. She asked for presents that would benefit the animals at the Animal Welfare Society instead of gifts for herself. Her generosity has inspired a friend of hers to do the same! Faith loves all types of pets, here she is holding Harlow, our resident ferret, with her sister. Thanks Faith!

This is Noah. When his 9th birthday rolled around, he decided to bring supplies and money to the shelter instead of getting birthday presents. During his Hero Tour, he met and fell in love with this adorable little kitten. After the tour his mother agreed to adopt this sweetie. What a great birthday gift! Thanks for your generosity Noah!

This is Alexandra. In November when people started asking her what she wanted for Christmas she puzzled over it for a while and decided to tell her friends and family that she would like presents for the animals at the Animal Welfare Society. In January she brought a car full of to the Shelter along with a cash donation. Here she is during her Hero Tour with Leon.

Meet Jason of Kennebunk! He saved money all year and donated it to AWS. When it came time to get a picture for the web site, he couldn't resist posing with our resident ferret, Harlow. We thank him for his generous donation.

The 5th grade students, teachers and parents from Lebanon Elementary School held a donation drive and managed to collect a great deal of litter, foods, treats, and toys for the animals at the AWS. These kids put in an enormous amount of time and effort in order to help us provide for our residents. We appreciate them for doing so!

Lilly loves cats, seriously, she LOVES cats! She and her family adopted a cat from the Animal Welfare Society but she wanted to do more. So she set up a lemonade stand and bought cat food for the Shelter Cats. Thank you Lilly!!

Meet Abby (in the purple AWS t-shirt) and her friends! She had her birthday party at the Animal Welfare Society and asked her friends to bring presents for the shelter residents instead of buying something for her. That was so generous! A big shout out to the the Little Yellow Store in Wells, they made a cash donation to the Shelter. Abby is a very popular young lady!

Every year Cub Scout Troop 304 has a supply drive to benefit the animals at the Animal Welfare Society. If there is a badge in compassion, I hope these kids get it! It's clear that they have great leaders!

When Ella's family and friends asked her what she wanted for her birthday this year she told them that she wanted gifts for the many homeless animals at the Animal Welfare Society. What a generous young lady. When she came to the Shelter after her birthday for a Hero Tour, she brought her Brownie Troop from York, another generous act. They all received a behind the scenes tour of the Shelter with Lona, the Humane Educator. Thank you Ella, you are an AWS Hero!

If the little girl holding the Albino Ferret looks familiar it might be because she was an AWS Hero last year too!! This is Delaney from Sanford and she is an Animal Lover! She brought her friend Emma and sisters Lydia and Miranda with her on her Hero Tour.

This is Kristina from South Portland, she and her family love animals. Kristina decided to ask friends and family for supplies and cash donations for the shelter for her eleventh birthday. Here she is in our Obedience Room with Gunner a brindle retired Greyhound. Kristina and her family adopted a dog from the Animal Welfare Society last year and she would love to bring home another dog soon. A Greyhound would love to have such a caring family! We hope to see you again soon!
