Since the news of the state being awarded custody of the approximate 300 dogs and pups from the Buxton puppy mill seizure, The Animal Welfare Society and The Animal Refuge League continue to carry out their committment to do the best they can for them. for each individual dog and puppy. This includes not only providing care by cleaning, feeding and exercising, but with the whole adoption process. The great appeal of these dogs has remained constant and prospective adopters should note that the state is requiring a 24 hour waiting period between the time you meet the dog and the actual adoption. This will allow you to consider all factors and make the best decision for you and your family. Several surrounding veterinarians are assisting with spay and neuter and small increments of dogs from the seizure will be placed on the website as they become available. Please understand that there has been great interest in these dogs and pups and we remind all interested parties that on day of individual adoptions, clients will be attended to on a first come/ first serve basis. We urge you to have an approved application on file prior to the day you wish to adopt. You can download one and mail it or simply submit online. You may want to place a follow up call (207-985-3244) to make sure it has been received.
