IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Seventy- two days into the Buxton puppy mill seizure and both the Animal Welfare Society and The Animal Refuge League continue to care for what is now over 300 dogs and puppies with 70 births adding to the total. Many dogs are still dealing with medical and behavioral issues and, as the decision of whether or not the animals become the property of the state is still pending, people wait eagerly in the wings for news of whether and when the pups will become available. Most of the national organizations whoÕve been assisting with the care of these animals have said good-bye to respond to other obligations. United Animal Nation, one of North AmericaÕs leading providers of emergency disaster relief services for animals, is just finishing up now so there remains a need for volunteers who can help at the Portland facility.
