Gearing Up for the Big Move/Dog Food No Longer Needed

In the next couple of weeks The Animal Welfare Society and The Animal Refuge League will be gearing up for a major change. The entire population of seized dogs and pups that have been, up until this point, cared for at the site of the seizure, will be moved into a new facility in Portland that will allow workers to provide a higher level of care. John Mason has been hired as Project Manager to ensure the new facility in Portland will be up and running and ready for the arrival of some 180 dogs and pups. AWS and ARL will be overseeing the staffing and operation of this new facility and, although staff and volunteers have gotten a chance to digest the blast of the initial seizure, theyÕll now be stepping into what AWS Executive Director, Steve Jacobsen terms Òplow ahead mode.Ó Jacobsen points out, ÒThis is no different than what weÕve been doing all along. ItÕs simply on a grander scale. This is our mission and very clearly it is ARLÕs as well.Ó

* AWS is pleased to announce that a major donor has provided enough dog food to accommodate these animals for some time. The society is still in need of canned cat/kitten food to support the continuing Òkitten seasonÓ that usually lasts well into November.
