Satellite and Mobile Adoptions
Did you know that less than 18% of family pets are adopted from animal shelters? Here at the AWS we understand that some people wouldn't think to stop by the shelter when it's just as easy to purchase an animal from a breeder, pet store or from the newspaper. In an effort to bring our animals to the forefront, we now have Satellite and Mobile Adoption Programs that bring the AWS animals out into the community.
Satellite Adoptions: Many local pet supply stores across York and Cumberland Counties participate in our program by hosting an adoptable cat or rabbit (or both)! These animals can be viewed at the pet store, and are cared for by the store staff. The adoption process is similar to at-the-shelter adoptions and potential adopters are required to come to the shelter to go over the adoption contract and paperwork with a trained Adoption Counselor. The following facilities participate in our Satellite Program. Visit them frequently to see the wonderful, available AWS animals.

Willow
|
Here we have Willow! This young lady is a 3.5-year-old, spayed female who has a very nice, medum length, brown tabby and white colored coat. With the length of her coat, she may require a bit of brushing, just to keep her coat beautiful and mat free. Brushing is also a good way for Willow and yourself to bond. Willow came to us because her previous owners could no longer care for her properly. She and her brother Spunky want to go to a home together. They may be the perfect pair for you! |

Shadow is a long term resident who came to AWS as a stray and has been at AWS for several months. It's amazing to us how this beautiful hunk of a boy could be passed by for so long. He loves people and is especially patient with children. Some of his interests include being held, sleeping, sitting on laps, and chairs in the sun.

Tabitha
|
Tabitha is a warm hearted girl looking for a kind hearted family. She loves to spend her days snoozing in a windowsill, soaking up the warm sun. At just three years old Tabitha finds herself being very curious, enjoying playtime as often as possible. Shortly after arriving at the shelter it was clear that little Tabitha had something wrong with her left hind leg. After a visit to the vet, it was discovered Tabitha had a broken pelvis. With months of rest and lots of tender loving care, she is now ready to find that special home to call her own. She will make one lucky family very happy, filling their lives with many years of joy! |

Think about adopting us! We have quite a tale to tell. It's actually a fairy tale because we just know that we'll live happily ever after when we find our forever home. We had a home and then, all of a sudden, we didn't. The exact details are fuzzy for us because they're painful, but we ended up outside and alone in the dead of winter!. Fortunately a nice person found us and brought us here. We are domestic bunnies, not wild, and cannot survive outside. In the winter, wild bunnies survive quite nicely because their burrows are well below the frost line where they can stay comfy and cozy.
*** Penny has given birth to 6 babies and Patti is due to give birth very soon. Both mothers and babies will become available in about 6 weeks. Please feel free to stop by AMA to see how they're doing!

Mobile Adoptions: The Animal Welfare Society is branching out into the exciting new area of mobile adoptions. In order to reach people outside of our immediate community, we understand that people do not want to have to travel long distances to visit the shelter. So we're bringing the shelter to you! We are forming a team of skilled volunteer adoption counselors that will travel to remote locations such as pet supply stores, other merchants and animal friendly organizations. These volunteers will be bringing along a number of small animals and cats that can be viewed, visited with and adopted right on site!
While we are still dedicated to finding the most responsible home possible, we also feel that these animals are much better served in a loving home, as opposed to sitting in the shelter facility. These mobile adoptions will inject new life into our adoption program and will hopefully find loving homes for our many cats and small animals in need. In the future it is possible that dogs might be on their way out of the shelter and will visit a location near you. Please watch for us out in your community!

Let our trained adoption counselors help you find the perfect animal for your family!
