If you are interested in adopting a dog, simply fill out and print an application, submit an application online, or stop by the shelter to complete the process. Adoption fees include spaying or neutering, the first series of vaccinations, a heart worm test, internal and external parasite control, a health evaluation with a local participating veterinarian, a collar with leash and personalized ID tag, and the offer of discounted Obedience Classes. All of our dogs and puppies are spayed or neutered before going into their new home, in hopes of reducing the number of unwanted animals we see in the shelter each year.

Adoption fees:

  • Puppies under 6 months $300.00*
  • Dogs aged 6 months to 8 years $190.00*
  • Dogs 8 years and up $145.00*

*Dogs that have been transported to Maine from other shelters are subject to a $60.00 surcharge.

*Check out one of our long term resident dogs (LTR) : These dogs have been at the shelter for over 8 weeks. Some get overlooked based on age, breed and temperament. however all of these dogs can make wonderful pets and they are just waiting for the perfect family. Please take the time to read about each dog's personality...you just might find a new friend for life!

We typically have a variety of dogs available for adoption. This includes pure and mixed breeds. The average age of our dogs varies but we always have a large selection of dogs between 1 - 2 years old. We also have some "oldies but goodies" available for adoption. These dogs are usually house trained and have great manners. Finally, we occasionally have litters of puppies and young transfer dogs available. For more information, please call (207) 985-3244.

UPDATE
Due to a diagnosis of  Distemper Virus at the end of October, we  have been strictly quarantining all symptomatic and recently treated dogs, as well as those with an insufficient antibody.  This will continue through January 30, 2010. Please keep checking the web site, as these dogs will be re-posted online once they are ready for adoption . These dogs have a staff of 2 and a handful of volunteers tending to their physical, psychological and emotional needs, day in and day out. To date, those with symptoms are steadily improving and no dog has broken with any additional illness.

Want to help??  Check out our list of wanted enrichment items to help keep our dogs mentally stimulated and fit or make a tax deductible donation.
