Hours of Operation

Our Adoption Center is open from 11am to 4:30pm on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday (closed Wednesdays). We are also open from 4:30pm to 7:00pm on Thursday and Friday evenings for ADOPTIONS ONLY.

The shelter is open to accept strays and surrenders from 11am to 4:30pm on all days except Wednesday.

Directions to The Animal Welfare Society

Holland Road

West Kennebunk, Maine 04094

From North of the Shelter: 95 South (Maine Turnpike) to Exit 25, Kennebunk exit (formerly exit 3). Take a left off of the exit ramp onto Route 35. Take a right at stop sign onto Alfred Road. Go straight through the 4 way intersection with a flashing red light. Shelter is on your next left on Holland Rd. Total trip approximately 1 mile from highway exit.

From South of the Shelter: 95 North (Maine Turnpike): to Exit 25 (formerly exit 3), Kennebunk exit. Take a right at the first stop sign. Go over bridge staying straight. Go straight through the 4 way intersection with flashing red light. Shelter is on your next left on Holland Rd. Total trip approximately 1.1 mile from highway exit.

From Route 1, Heading South: Head into center of Kennebunk. Take a right onto Route 35, North. Follow past Kennebunk High School. Continue straight past both turnpike exits, do not turn into Rt. 35/ Turnpike. Stay bearing to the left onto Alfred Road. Go straight at four way intersection with flashing red light. Take next left onto Holland Road. Shelter is at the dead end of the road on the right. Shelter is an approximate mile on left after turnpike exits.

From Route 1, Heading North: Head into center of Kennebunk. Take a left onto Route 35. Follow above directions.

From Sanford: Route 109 to Route 99. Follow past blueberry plains. Take a left at the sign for the Maine Turnpike. Come to an immediate stop sign, take a left onto Mill Street. Follow to end where there is a stop sign. Take a left. Shelter is next left onto Holland Road.

From Hollis Area: Route 35 to Kennebunk, past Maine turnpike exit to stop sign. Take a right at stop sign onto Alfred Road. Go straight through the 4 way intersection with flashing red light. Shelter is on your next left on Holland Rd. Total trip approximately 1 mile from highway exit.

From Waterboro: Route 5 towards Saco. Take a right on Route 35 and follow above Hollis directions
